How Becker Classic radios work

Becker Classic calculator-series radios are named by the number of preset buttons:

  • B9: 9 preset buttons (digits 1–9); fitted to many Mercedes-Benz models

The series is marked on the radio itself and on the code card. If you don't have the code card, count the numbered preset buttons on your radio.

Becker Classic radios were supplied with a small code card placed in the glovebox or owner's documentation folder. This card shows both the series (e.g. B9) and the 4-digit serial number.

If the card is missing, the serial is also on a sticker on the top or side of the radio unit. You may need to remove the radio from the dashboard to see it.

Your code is a 5-digit sequence (e.g. 23141). Enter it using the radio's preset buttons:

  1. Turn on the ignition with the radio locked
  2. The display shows "CODE" or a series of dashes
  3. Press each preset button the number of times shown by the corresponding digit in the code
  4. For example, for "23141": press button 2 once, button 3 once, button 1 once, button 4 once, button 1 once
  5. Confirm entry. Refer to your radio's manual for the exact confirmation step (often the BND or AM/FM button)

Do not attempt the wrong code more than a few times. Repeated wrong entries may trigger a security lockout.

Which cars have a Becker Classic?

Becker B-series calculator radios were offered as OEM or dealer-option equipment in many European cars during the 1980s and early 1990s:
