Serial starts with VWZ, on the label
This unit does not show its serial on screen. Button combinations you may have read about — holding 1 and 6, or SCAN and MODE — put the radio into code entry, not serial display, and wrong attempts can lock it for longer. The serial is on a label on the case.
You will needA set of radio release keys (flat U-shaped pins), a few pounds from Halfords or any motor factor.
- 1Slide a release key into each of the slots at the sides of the radio face.
- 2Push them in until the clips let go, then draw the unit straight out far enough to see the case.
- 3The serial is on the printed label on the top or side of the metal casing.
Take it off the radio, not off paperwork. The number in the handbook or on a dealer invoice is often for a different unit than the one actually fitted, and a wrong serial buys you a wrong code.
