What serial numbers does Ford use?

Ford radios use single-letter serials: M and V (most modern units), C, L and A (1980s–1990s). Most modern Fords do not show the serial automatically. On the 6000 CD you hold buttons 1 and 6 for three seconds, and on the 4500 RDS you hold 2 and 6. Older units keep the serial on a label and must be removed.

How do I find my Ford serial number if it doesn't appear on screen?

Do you support Ford Sony radios? +

Yes. Ford factory-fitted Sony radios (CD132 and CD133, fitted to Focus, Mondeo, Transit, Fiesta and others from 2004–2015) are fully supported. These are genuine OEM units that use a V-serial number (e.g. V123456), the same system as all other Ford factory radios. Hold buttons 1 and 6 for 3 seconds to display the serial on screen.

If you have replaced your radio with a non-Ford aftermarket unit (Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood, etc.), we cannot help with those, contact the manufacturer or retailer instead.

What if my radio won't display the serial when locked? +

Some radios display the serial only briefly or require a specific key position. Try these steps:

Turn the ignition on (not the engine)
Wait 3–5 seconds and look at the display
The serial may appear for just a second before cycling to "LOCKED"
If it doesn't show, remove the radio and check for a sticker label with the serial on the back or side
